Norton Internet Security automatically turns on Quiet Mode when you perform a few tasks that require higher utilization of your system resources. When Quiet Mode is turned on, Norton Internet Security suspends the background activities and lets the task use the maximum resources for better performance.
Norton Internet Security automatically turns on Quiet Mode when you turn on the following options:
IMAPI 2.0 Disk Burn | When you turn on this option and use a Media Center application to burn a CD or a DVD, Norton Internet Security automatically enables Quiet Mode. When Quiet Mode is enabled, Norton Internet Security suspends background activities to improve the performance of your disk-burning session. However, Norton Internet Security continues to display alerts and notifications during the session. Norton Internet Security supports the following Media Center disk-burner applications to turn on Quiet Mode:

Media Center TV Recording | When you turn on this option and use a Media Center application to record a TV program, Norton Internet Security automatically enables Quiet Mode. When Quiet Mode is enabled, Norton Internet Security suspends background activities to improve the performance of your TV program recording session. However, Norton Internet Security continues to display alerts and notifications during the session. Norton Internet Security supports the following Media Center applications to turn on Quiet Mode:
